Yesterday marked the 6th fishing class Jacob has attended and the 3rd one for Alex. Yesterdays class was on cleaning and eating fish. The volunteers actually cleaned the fish, breaded them and fried them. Although Jake and Alex made some horrifying faces while the fish cleaning went on, but both of them tried a few pieces and I think they enjoyed it.
We were invited early to help the volunteers catch some fish for the demonstration. We arrived at 11:30. Jake got his pole in first and caught a nice Hy-bred. Alex caught a good sized catfish. Both were placed in the cooler for later. The boys continued to fish. Jake caught 6 and Alex caught 8. Jake caught a huge catfish. It was soooo funny when he asked the volunteer Sue if they could cut off it’s head and cook it. She’s more of a catch and release person.
Today they receieved a nice GO FISH t-shirt. We meet the developer of the program and she told us about the upcoming trout event. It will be a one day 2 hour event where the Missouri Conservation Department has a company come in that bring fly fishing equipment and will teach the kids about flyfishing. They actually get to take home up to three of the trout they catch.
It’s really been a lot of fun and more classes are getting ready to start. To get your children/grandchildren signed up visit MO. Conservation Dept.and have a great time. It’s free and the kids will learn a lot.
Thanks to volunteer Sue Brewer for taking the pictures and Thanks to all the other great volunteers.
